49_DAYS_POST_1

The Remember Pulse: 49 Days of Action Campaign as part of #HonorThemWithAction will be providing 49 action ideas over the course of 7 weeks in honor of each of the lives taken at Pulse Nightclub one year ago. Every Monday we will provide you with a list of 7 actions you can take for that week. They will include ways to reflect on Pulse but will also highlight ways to take action on the platform issues of the Equality March for Unity and Pride: Biphobia, Disability Rights, Elder Rights, Faith & Religion, HIV/AIDS, Immigration Justice, Indigenous/Two Spirit, Income Inequality, International, Legislative Issues, Racial Justice, Reproductive Justice, Transphobia, Violence, Youth. We hope that your actions each week will help to grow this movement as we take on actions in later weeks and we encourage you to share this campaign and your actions with your email and social media network:

WEEK SEVEN ACTIONS… (click here for Past Actions)

Day 43 | Monday, July 24, 2017

The deadline to tell President Trump to keep transgender older adults in a key federal aging survey is midnight, Eastern Time, tonight. Please sign SAGE’s petition NOW in order to make your voice heard on this vital issue.

Day 44 | Tuesday, July 25, 2017

After a week of trying to follow the rapidly changing state of play around the Senate’s agenda to repeal the ACA & “defund” Planned Parenthood, we’re right back where we started. Right now, the Senate is still working hard to pass a bill that will take away healthcare from millions of Americans and we expect that they will bring something to the floor for a vote by the middle of next week. Despite what feels like a never ending cycle to stop this bill, the pressure we’ve collectively been able to put on Congress is working–we can’t let up! Use Planned Parenthood’s call tool to demand a stop to Trumpcare once and for all.

Day 45 | Wednesday, July 26, 2017

Celebrate the progress of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the ADA Anniversary today with the ADA National Network. Become a part of the nationwide celebration and recommitment to the ADA by signing an individual, organizational, or faith community pledge/proclamation.

Day 46 | Thursday, July 27, 2017

Mental illness affects one in five adults and one in 10 children in America, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Furthermore, mental illness is a leading cause of disability, yet nearly two-thirds of people with a diagnosable mental illness do not seek treatment, and racial and ethnic groups in the U.S. are even less likely to get help, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness. During National Minority Mental Health Month, help raise awareness in your organization or community. Encourage your family, friends, loved ones and colleagues to learn more about improving mental health and illness by sharing this treatment locator. Bust stigma by being an ally and/or sharing your story.

Day 47 | Friday, July 28, 2017

In honor of the lives taken by gun violence due to a hate crime at Pulse and across the country, we want to close out our last congressional day of action focused on preventing gun violence. Contact your member of Congress and demand they sign on as a co-sponsor for the Disarm Hate Act, a bill that closes the Violent Hate Crimes Loophole that permits the sale of firearms to individuals who have been convicted of threatening with a deadly weapon or assaulting someone based on their race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability. We also want to close out this campaign centering the lives taken at Pulse nightclub last year – a majority from the Latinx community. The Trump administration has taken on a number of efforts that negatively impact the lives of LGBTQ Latinx people. Check out LULAC’s Action Center to advocate against mass deportations, the proposed border wall, and other issues of importance.

Day 48 | Saturday, July 29, 2017

Please share with your friends, organizations, and loved ones the link to sign up for the pledge to #HonorThemWithAction. We know this honoring will extend past this 49 Days of Action campaign. If they sign up within the next week, we will add their names to yours to create a Book of Remembrance highlighting your commitment to their memory that will be left at the Pulse Memorial in Orlando.

Day 49 | Sunday, July 30, 2017

Share on social media and with friends and family the actions you’ve taken this week and/or throughout the initiative as a part of the #HonorThemWithAction campaign. Please report your activities this back to the campaign HERE so that we can celebrate our collective success in honoring the lives taken at Pulse Nightclub last year.
